Since 2001, each time I have read The Book of Mormon, I have studied it with a "theme". I do this in order to learn more about specific topics and to help me pay more attention. This focus in my studies has helped me avoid just "going through the motions" as I read and has aided my desires to receive inspiration through the Holy Spirit's guidance.
As I began The Book of Mormon again in August, I considered several themes: faith, obedience, covenants, honesty, self control, choosing the right, being dependable, sacrifice, enjoying life, living with joy, balance, hope, and more.
I decided to focus on the joy in life because I want to do better at living each day with joy (noticing the little things). So the theme: "Enjoying Life"
And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. (Moroni 10:4)
Why I Read The Book Of Mormon
From the beginning God has spoken to His children through His servants, the prophets, and we have their messages in the scriptures. The Bible is a collection of His dealings with His covenant people, the Jews, and is highlighted by four beautiful accounts of the life of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem. The Book of Mormon is a collection of God’s dealings with other prophets on the American continent who were led there by Him and continued to record His words.
I read The Book of Mormon, as I do the Bible, because it has the words God has prepared for me today. As I study His words I feel the confirmation of their truth through the Holy Spirit. I feel inspiration, guidance, knowledge, and comfort as I pray and ponder the scriptures God has provided.
I encourage all to find the same peace and direction by reading The Book of Mormon and praying to God to know of its truth. He will answer our sincere prayers.
God does love His children, and I am thankful for His enduring care and guidance.
